I see Grandpa and I are on the same page here! In addition I use them for...
-I have also drilled holes in the bottom of them and used them as plant pots for growing veggies in them on the patio.
-With a specially designed plunger I have used them for washing clothes. Yeah I know thats pretty old school, but ask those folks up in New York what they are doing now with the power still out for so many and gas being rationed...
-I use them at the reloading bench for seperating and storing my brass cases. Additionally I have a small copper tube going from my de-priming press to a 5 gallon bucket to catch the spent primers from my reloading operations. I store wads, bullets and any other number of items in neat organized manor.
-I also run a trap line occasionally, yeah I know this makes me cruel and evil to many here, but youll get over it, I already have. I often make a couple of cuts in the 5 gallon buckets in order to hold a 220 Conibear trap in a "Bucket Set".
-I have a few chickens and they make excellent nesting boxes for the few hens I keep around at my humble urban abode.
-I use a 5 gallon bucket when I go picking Black Berries or Pecans.
I think the OP is right, there has to be a million ways in which a 5 gallon bucket can come in pretty handy.
