Default Camping on a honeymoon?

One of my friends tells me he is going to make his girlfriend go camping on their honeymoon. I told him there's no way she's going to let him get by with that one. What about the rest of you? Did anyone here spend your honeymoon in a tent?

Yep......

Actually, after the reception, we stayed in a motel. We then went on a driving/camping honeymoon with another stay in a motel on the 4th and 7th nights.

Yep, and it was my idea. We were in hawaii, and spent 6 of 9 nights in a tent, part of that backpacking. I can tell you there are worse ways to spend a honeymoon than having 30 miles of shoreline to yourself in Volcanoes National Park. There are just 3 backcountry permits issued for the area we were hiking, and the other two were unclaimed that week.

Guess it 's just a matter of what she wants in a honeymoon suite. I think your buddie ought to clear it with her first though. If he is going to surprise her with it and she is expecting room service he will pay for the camping trip for the rest of his life. If she is on board with it then I don't see a problem but stress to him that women expect certain things at certain times and even if she loves camping it might not be what she wants for her ONE and ONLY HONEYMOON.

I have met people on the trail before that were on their honeymoon. From their appearnce and talking to them it fit. There is no problem if that is what they (in this case make sure she wants to) want to do that, great for them. That being said I will not because my wife said no. So we are try to find a resort to spend it at once summer comes around.

Yep! We met on a camping trip, we got married and honeymooned on a camping trip and now we spend each anniversary on a camping trip. It's really what floats your boat that matters.

We weren't in a tent, but we were hiking. We stayed at B&Bs.
I met a couple on the PCT. They were on their honeymoon and were going north. They expected to go all the way.

Years ago I met a young couple who were camping for their honeymoon. It was because they couldn't afford anything else. I invited them over to my camp and made them breakfast (eggs, bacon and waffles with maple syrup) because they didn't have a camp stove either and all they had was cold cereal which isn't exactly a good warmup on a crisp morning.

Of course, then they went back to their tent which is where they spent most of their time. Ain't love grand?

Gerry,
"Making his girlfriend go camping" has mistake written all over it. I spent my first honeymoon in a tent in Maine and had a wonderful time, but that was 40 years ago and my wife thought it was a good idea. It was what we could afford. It was beautiful and we had lots of privacy. It was a good way to start a marriage.

I have organized a lot of outdoor trips over the years. I always look for people with a lot of enthusiasm to join a trip. It is nearly always a mistake to talk some one into it. To make them go can be a real disaster.

"Honeymoon" and "make her go <anywhere>" is a recipe for a quick divorce. Hikenhunter hit it on the head. Women think about their wedding and honeymoon for their whole life to that point. Guys have no real comparison. Maybe being drafted into the NFL. It's that big of a deal to them. Trying to force something nontraditional on her, especially if it can be viewed as cheapness, is going to go badly forever. It'll never end.
