I arrived at a campsite in the BWCA of No. Minn. once right after a female camper had just taken a dump right in the middle of a tentsite! I'm not against recycling in the woods, but pul-leeze; not on someone's future tent site.
(The campsites are strictly controlled up there.)

There's no explanation for the rudeness of some people. Honestly, I would have thought everyone would know not to do that in the middle of a campsite.

I can't help but wonder how you could tell it was a female from that. No explanation necessary!

Right in the middle of the campsite? Did she do it in broad daylight? How do you know whose it was? As for me, I do the dig and bury thing in the woods, not by the camp!

In cases like this (no bathroom in the camp ground), I make sure to bring my portable flush toilet with me when I plan to camp outdoors and bring my own vehicle. If I forgot to bring it along, I've no choice but to dig a small hole somewhere private not far away from my camp site and do my thing there.

Maybe it's a girl thing but I have to have a toilet! I have backpacked for 10 miles and back with no restroom but I just held it in. I like to camp remote but a toilet is a necessity even if it's a port o potty!

I'll dig a hole and cover it up, but my wife has to have the port-a-pot along. I think needing to have somewhere to go besides a small hole in the ground is a woman thing.

Well I am a woman and it doesn't bother me of course I grew up as the outdoorsy type though. Maybe it's just all in what you get used too.

Since I am more often than not in the primative camping areas, I find a downwind area at least 50 yards away from my campsite (and at least 150yds away from any water sources), dig a hole, do my business then cover it up.

There was no bathroom in our scouting camp site when I was a kid. The company who owned the plantation provided us that camp, and one of the personnel officers was our Scout Master. We did have fun swimming in the nearby river. We also designated a portion to be our toilet. We dug deep, put wood across the hole and we squatted on it to let go of dirt. Then we covered the hole with soil a little at a time daily to cut the smell until the hole got filled. When the girl scouts visited the camp site, that was the time the company provided portalets.
