I prefer wood, and for the reasons the others have given before me.

I will admit to taking a DuraFlame log with me, however, often hacked into bits and zipped into ziploc bags: no matter how wet the wood, a piece of the firelog will ensure that the fire starts, every time.

Living in western Canada means the firewood is almost always wet.

I like to use wood. Like it has been mentioned various woods give different flavors. At home I use whiskey barrel chunks.

Default wood

I prefer wood while camping like the others have mentioned and for the same reasons mentioned. I use charcoal at home though, becuase their is no place to set up a wood fire.

I have cooked with all of them. I rather like my propane to speed things up when people are clamoring for food. Cooking outside is great no matter the method.

Since I am a backpacker even though I prefer wood must of the time I am just boiling water for Moutain House Meals I use a backpacking stove. IN just a little of 1 lb of weight I can carry my stove and enough fuel to cook for a week.
