I use Bear Grylls's survivor trousers. They are pretty light, they dry fast and rip rarely. Then again, they might not suit you, you will have to try them yourself.

I use pants like 2coastcamper uses. Lightweight, you can zip off the bottom if you want. (I never have). Plenty of pockets. Keeps me cool, unlike denim jeans. Doesn't stay wet like denim. I do forget the brand name, I usually find them at places like Basspro shops, and once in a while at regular clothing retail shops.

I like the lighter weight mostly nylon pants the guys above me are suggesting, but I also like a good ol pair of dickies. If I'm going to be in the water alot but still want pants I use my Prana Zion pants. They are the light weight nylonish material but instead of a zip off, they have snaps to hold the cuffs rolled up. Really good for climbing, not great for canyoneering becouse I realized on sunday the cuffs fill with sand and wont stay up.

I usually just wear jeans, but I like the light weight canvas pants too. They're both on the heavy side and they can be hot at times, but I like the protection they offer from briers and thorns.
