Default Cold Weather Camping Benefit

I've been a bit blinkered, against cold weather camping. I've now had my eyes opened after a couple of nights away this week.

Less bugs! Less to bother, bite and annoy. And hey, there's always a warm body to snuggle to keep you warm. I think I'm converted!

Cold weather camping is great but you also have to carry more gear with you. A heavier sleeping blanket, maybe a thicker sleeping pad or heavier tent footprint. But either way, if you love camping and just enjoying the outdoors it's worth a shot if you can carry the extra gear.

Just make sure that you use a footprint or a tarp under your tent. Trust me when I say that it's really awful to wake up drenched in the middle of winter because your body heat melted the snow and it soaked through your sleeping pad and bag.

Forced relaxation. The days are shorter, the nights are longer. There is just as much wildlife all around, great scenery and as said before.....no bugs.

What a great thought! I hate the pesky bugs and mosquitoes when you camp in the warmer weather!
Sitting around the fire drinking hot cocoa sounds like a blast to me.

Yes! I always loved winter for the extra hours of darkness as I sleep better. But at home I'm surrounded by electronics that are distracting. Away from it all, it's a nice combination.

We stayed plenty warm enough, and dry too. It looks like we're going again this weekend too, but we might be forced to bring the kids along this time, darn it.
