Default Collecting Rocks

Our youngest son has a habit of collecting small rocks from different places we have been to and he has quite a collection. He gets them from the gift shop or asks someone in charge first before he takes them so we don't think it's a problem. Does anyone else collect rocks?

Sure do. If you ever get down to New Mexico, check out their Rockhound
State Park. When I was there 5 years ago, collecting was allowed. I assume that is still the case, although they don't mention it on their website...

Ok, found this, up to 15 pounds...I assume per visit..

OMG, do you realise what would happen if everybody took rocks from everywhere they go......

Hi...

I'm not a rock collector, but I would sometimes pick up an interestingly colored rock I saw in some rivers and streams in the Canadian Rockies.

Kept a few, and gave most of them away. Such rocks would lose their colored charm as soon as they were dry.

We have quite a few rocks in our crick out back. My kids used to like to look for rocks when we went hiking. I let them, but I never let them take them. I don't see the problem in taking 1 rock though.

When I was a kid... But as a backpacker I usually only collect one rock for the bear bag. I return it afterwards. If I found an interesting pebble I might keep it

Well, our boy has quite the collection. He has them in his room and around the house. He likes to go down to our creek in the field and pick them up too. He's found quite a lot of good ones washed down the creek from the hill above.

I did that passionately as a kid and had quite a collection. I think my parents threw it away at some point because I couldn't find them anywhere.

I do this from time to time if I find an interesting piece. But I won't go around trying to find a good one just to have one from each place I've visited. That is what fridge magnets are for.
