Default Cottage or camp

Do you have a cottage or a camp or do you prefer to be in the woods? Friends of mine have a cottage, it has no phone, power, etc but is a structure, they want us to come this year with them.

I would love to own a simple cottage somewhere isolated but just don't know how to go about finding such a property and then putting up a small building. A builder I am not.

I hear ya. This one runs what it does on propane, has an outhouse, all the "amenities" one would love to have in the woods. It's on an island in the middle of a lake.

Awesome. When I was a kid my great uncle had a cabin like that in the middle of a massive lake. The island was like two acres. The cabin was probably 50 years old and it was a half hour boat ride to get there. Man I loved spending time at that cabin no matter how badly it smelled like fish.

One of my best memories is cabin camping on a lake in Seneca, Oregon. The fish were so hungry you could hook them with anything and cooking on a wood burning stove was a new experience. Go for it and have fun!

I would love to have a cottage or cabin too. Actually we do own a 1 room cabin but it's on our property so not like camping. We usually camp in our camper but this year we are going to rent a cabin on most trips.

Wouldn't matter to me as long as I was away from it all and in the woods somewhere. A cabin would be great!

This camp, we had to take a boat, we could only pack so much because of the size of the boat, sometimes it took more than one trip.

I don't know of any cottages like that, but I think it sounds like a cool type of shelter. Somewhat better protection than a tent, while still "roughing" it.

I liked using my friend's cottage in the mountains. It was like the one mentioned-it had a fire, water from the stream and had power from a generator. No phone, no reception for anything. It was nice but I prefer camping.
