Default A foggy camping trip

We went on an overnight camping trip last weekend. It was foggy when we left home early that morning and still foggy when we set up camp. It did clear up a little in the afternoon but then was foggy again that night and when we left the next afternoon! At least it wasn't cold but we really didn't enjoy all the fog.

Fog makes everything damp and it's kind of a strange feeling being surrounded by it. If you were in a tent, it was probably not too pleasant.

Yuk - where do you live that you can camp this time of year? Tent camping? I don't like to drive in the fog - it's hard to see. I bet it was gloomy and the air was heavy too.

There is something about fog that I find very comforting in an eerie kind of way. I don't like the damp that comes with it, but it is definitely an ambiance of its own.

I went on a backpacking trip in the Cascades once in July for three days. We camped next to a lake, but never saw it the whole time due to fog. It took 4 hours to build a fire. That was the day I decided to leave WA.

I had a famous tipi party once in Nevada in January during freezing fog. There was a lot of snow on the ground and the high was 28 degrees F. With a fire in the tipi and a fire outside, it was one of the most talked about parties we have ever had.

We get a lot of fog on lakes in the fall in the morning. Cool air flows over the warmer water. It is always eeire to launch in the fog and try to miss the other boats while trolling. I usually don't leave shore until the fog starts to break up.

I agree. Unless the fog creeps up on us while we're already camping, I'd rather not go with the whole camping trip. Driving through a fog can be really dangerous, and with three young kids with me, I don't think it's worth the risk.

Went camping once with some friends and we woke up to a really foggy morning. Kinda eerie and cold. It lifted though later in the day so we didn't have to worry about our stuff getting too damp.

I think it's neat when you climb above the fog and you can see the tops of the mountains peeking out above the fog. But I don't like being in the fog either, especially the dampness.

Heh, having grown up in Nova Scotia, fog was just a part of life. Gotta work with it or you don't work.

There is nothing quite like a good strong campfire in a thick fog. It creates all sorts of unique visuals in the updraft.
