Shootin' the bull with one of my camping buddies on the phone and he was tellin me hs is heading to kentucky in a couple weeks for the geo woodstock, a huge gathering of geocatching folks. I told him that yall ocassionally mention Geocatching here and he asked me if any of yall were gonna be there and if yall knew of any good geo catching forums or on line communities??

Hi...

That's a new one on my, Cappy. 'Fraid I don't know...except for Woodstock itself (the original festival), which was just a few minutes from here.

Good luck with your search, though.

The only online community I dealt with when I used to Geocache was GONIL (Geochachers of Northeastern Illinois). I know several people who attend the Geocaching Woodstock. I never have, not that big into caching to travel that far.

I've known a few people to go to other GeoWoodstocks, and will probably continue going. They seemed to enjoy it, but I'm just not that in to geocaching.

The geocaching.com website has it's own forums and community. There are also smaller geocaching groups in just about every state that you can find on Google.

Thanks yall, I will tell him what ya said. I guess the reason I never got into it is cause I live by my gps at work. following waypoints to a place I aint ever been is alot of what I do on the boat. I have like 1600 way points and 160 routes stored on my Gps and following them around along with paper maps and navigational charts is how I find remote locations in the maze of canals that make up Gulf coast wetlands.

Ive gone to some local geoCACHING events, but never had the desire to go farther. I've heard of some larger events.

Gatherings of geocachers can get strange, as a group. The ones around me are often a bit odd. Twenty of them in one place are plenty. I can't imagine hundreds...

The event sounds nerdy and a lot of fun at the same time. It would be fun for people that are goal oriented and open-minded.

I'm heading off to Geowoodstock on Wed. We're camping for 3 days at Dream Lake state campground.
