| We used to tell stories just to put someone on edge. Never waited until night time, I figure if your going to freak somebody out, might as well do it early. Had a guy many years ago who wouldn't use the toilets at the camp grounds after we told him about "septic tank spiders". We explained how they would crawl up from underneath and leave a painful bite that would get severely infected due to the nasty conditions. He would wait as long as he could then go to the gas station down the way when nature called. Another time when stationed in Panama. We were out in the jungle and a bunch of us found a really large Tarantula. Of course being young GI"s we had to mess with it and found that it had a large egg sack underneath. One of the guys ended up killing it and burned the egg sack. After a short time while we were just sitting there, I started looking around all nervous like. This young troop ask me what I'm looking for. I told him That Tarantula's always travel in pairs with their mates. The Male was somewhere near by looking for the female and the eggs. Of course I know nothing about the social habits of spiders and I'm making it all up. This kid sat on his rucksack all night long and never laid down to sleep. I know this because we were on an all night listening/observation post and as we rotated people throughout the night to conduct the duties, he was there sitting on the ruck.
