Default Good Outdoor Book Lately?

Have you read any good book on outdoor gear/skills/activities lately. I've discovered that what you can pick up from books is astounding, no matter what's your skill set. If it's a new trick or two from an entire book than count me in for reading it.

I haven't read one yet, but I am waiting for my copy of 98.6 degrees The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive by Cody Lundeen to come in the mail.

I'm currently reading a few books on creating survival/bug out kits. I particularly like John McCann's "How to Build a Perfect Survival Kit". Little outdated but this oldtimer knows what he's talking about.

I picked up a copy of the Eddie Bauer "Guide to Family Camping" recently at a garage sale. I paid $.50 for it and have found some great tips in it already. It's also an interesting read.

Hi...

A while back I ordered a copy of The Outward Bound Wilderness First-aid Handbook.

It contains a lot of information, but is completely devoid of photos, and has a limited amount of drawings.

I think it would be much better as a text book vs a self-teaching medium.

Has good info on first aid kit contents.

Don't know when...if ever...I'll finish reading it.

The NOLS Handbook of Wilderness Medicine was available for free on Kindle a while back. I downloaded it. Not a lot different from EMT-B in scope, but more oriented toward longer term care/ evacuation decisions.

Also just downloaded "A year on the Allegheny" about a guy living a year in his cabin on the Allegheny National Forest in PA.

I'm not buying Kindle books anymore. I want to return to the old style of reading. I'm sick and tired of reading stuff on screen. Plus, the feeling of reading a real book is awesome!
