Default How many people try to practice low or no-impact camping?

I know it isn't always easy, but how many here feel compelled to leave no trace of their outdoor activities or, in other words, no 'footprint'?

I've been taught the basics of low-impact camping which requires you to not only take everything out with you (and I mean EVERYTHING...if you catch my drift) but also put your campsite back into it's natural condition after you leave. Of course, this is mainly for backcountry campgrounds.

That folks DON'T do that drives me NUTS.

I remember going on a trip with someone that smoked; not only was I taught that you don't take tailor-mades into the bush (you take papers and some Drum tobacco and roll your own, they don't stay lit like manufactured cigs do and breakdown fast due to the lack of a filter), but you have a "butt-can" of sorts, and take all those butts and stubs with you at the end of the trip (it's also to help prevent fire, obviously).

I'm more of a leave it as you found it guy. If I'm camping in a spot that had no traces I leave no traces. If there is already a small fire ring so be it. I'm not undoing someone else's work in a spot I don't own.

"Not enough" I agree, Grandpa. I've camped in big groups before and the protocol was to leave the sites exactly as we found them, or at least in a natural state. It usually took us 2-3 hours to disassemble and clean up but that's how we learned. Then I would go hiking way into the backcountry...look around at the beautiful scenery...then glance down. And what would I see? A candy wrapper and soda can wedged between the rocks.

What amazes me is 40 miles from the nearest trailhead, seeing a beer or pop can. As a backpacker who is conscious of every ounce I carry, who carried that sucker that far?

My goal in life is to figure out how to dehydrate beer and reconstitute it back to it's former quality with only water. If successful, I will be rich and famous beyond belief.

Cheap whiskey + water = Budweiser. It's as close as you'll get.

A few years back I provided one of our local beer companies an ideal on just how to do that....so far, nothing....
