100% lanterns.
Classic Colemans in camp and kerosene Dietz lanterns for walking around the woods.
Lotsa fun that way.

I guess it's because I grew up with Coleman lanterns (and kerosene lanterns- I still have one I scrounged out of a trash can at a campground- the tank leaked. After a little creative brazing, it was fine), but there is something about that kind of weirdly yellowish light that seems homey and inviting.

Don't own a lantern, but have way too many flashlights! I have a head lamp also I like to use. A lantern would be nice to have for sitting around the picnic table or hanging from the inside of the tent, maybe I'll pick up a small battery operated one.

Mostly headlamps, though a lantern is nice to have if I have room. I have quite an assortment of lanterns ranging from a tiny Black Diamond for backpacking, to a double mantle Coleman gas. In between are some LED lanterns of varying sizes and light output.

Hi...

I have a two-mantle Coleman lantern...for use at home only...in case of a power failure (and after my battery lanterns have dimmed).

I don't hike in the dark, but if I need to do something after dark, I use a military type gooseneck two cell flashlight, which can be fastened to your belt, shirt pocket, etc.

I also usually have other brighter flashlights available. I have one...which has two different filiments in the bulb...in case one burns out. I wish I could remember the brand name...as it is gauranteed for life..with the exception of grizzlys, sharks, or children (really)...!!

We use both lanterns and flashlights while camping. If we are walking around the campsite we generally leave the lantern glowing but if we are hiking or walking somewhere we use the flashlights.

I use flashlights rather than lanterns. It's much safer for me, especially when I'm out camping with my nephews.

I usually bring a lantern, headlamp and handheld flashlight. The headlamp gets the most use by far.
