| looking for camping buddy Camping alone is just not as fun as having a buddy to camp alongside, so I am looking to meet someone in and around or near my age-70- who is looking for a companion camper. Non-smoker, excessive drinker, no drugs.. just to relax and enjoy all the beauty in the area around IL, IN, MI, WI..
I've been camping all my life.. started out in Army tents w cots, went the whole route and now as a Civil War reenactor, back to canvas tents w cots..
so if you're interested or know someone who is looking for the same.. get in touch..
thanks

| Well, I'm not an excessive drinker...but I'm willing to learn! (Sorry- it was too good to pass up.) Welcome, and I hope you find a buddy. Your area is a bit outside my normal range.

| if your on facebook , look for local camping / hiking clubs .
otherwise stop at a local state park , the rangers may be able to direct you to a group that can meet your needs

Your style of camping is very different from mine, but I love my spring-bar style canvas tent when car camping for extended periods of time. Someone posted pictures here a couple years ago from reenactment type camping that were really cool. If I happen to hear of someone I'll post you a PM. Good luck in meeting up with similar style campers!

| Move west, Grandma gets upset when I go solo, but I'm not much on the drinking part.
Spending time with children is more important than spending money on them. (Don't know who said it but I like it)

Let me know if you want to be and I'll add your name. Lots of folks retired out your way from there and "the other site that shall not be mentioned." Too many nice guys in your area that are looking for others to backpack with for Grandma to worry about you out there on your own fighting off bears. They are in a similar situation where they have time and flexibility to backpack, but have to wait for someone else to have time off to play outdoors with them. Foggy probably knows of the same folks.

Don't have to argue with the dog near as much as with other people. ****stopping to think here**** On the otherhand, I've never had another hiker try to commandeer my sleeping bag either .

Most of the guys I think you might enjoy meeting are on backpacker.com and live in the Pacific Northwest.
As you know I traveled solo for a couple of years and recently transitioned to backpacking, but you taught me to connect with people with similar interests. I guess I need to hike the ST to become a "Turtle," however the backpacking world seems to be pretty finite.
My family worries a lot less when I'm out in the backcountry with other women or groups with experience and they tend to rely less on multiple checkins with the SPOT which is better for all of us. Thanks to you and Fridge I have a nice little network on this side of the Continent of folks my age and similar interests.
Darn, between me and my dog snoring and others talking in their sleep or getting lost in the middle of the night, we have more excitement than during the day sometimes! Backpacking is such a fun escape from reality!
P.S. My Abby tries to kick ME out of the sleeping bag! Anyone else would probably get clobbered!
