Default Messy camping

Our last camping trip was a mess, it rained and rained and we had so many muddy towels and dirty items to wash. I love to camp but I really detest the clean-up after. I went to the Laundromat and washed it all quick! The kids love it when it rains, I hate the clean-up.

This does sound like a really fun trip for you. Sorry, but remember the good times you have had camping and check the weather forecast next time.

I kinda like it dirty. In all seriousness, if I don't get at last a little bit dirty I won't consider that an experience. But that's just me.

Well, sweetheart, that is part and parcel to camping. If it wasn't camping, you'd have a valet to pick up all the dirty clothes and return them in the morning with a smile and a five star hotel's bill.

I have lived in the mud, the ice, the woods, the desert and in the finest hotels in the world. I really liked those hotels where you can pick up the phone for anything you want. But, I went back to the woods and the mud and the ice. Why? I need to satisfy my particular brand of crazy. Don't we all?

Yes tentmom when I return from some serious Backpacking trips after some rain or muddy conditions clothing and gear does need attention. With children I supose your mess is a bit more than those of us who do not have children.
Thanks for sharing

Who saw the episode of Sarah Palins Alaska where Kate (John and Kate plus 8), went camping with the Palins and it rain the whole time. Kate was a total mess and whined the whole time...everyone else for that matter, kids included, sucked it up and had what seems like a great time. The way I see it is that if you want to stay clean the whole time, rent a motel room!

Tentmom, I used to love camping when I was single but I have to admit, after getting married and camping with small children, I've (sadly) steered away from it. I found all the joy of being out in the wilderness and feeling peaceful and "free" were stolen away from me when all my time was spent cleaning up and organizing and reorganizing our gear through the whole trip. It wiped me out!

oldsarge, I'm not sorry that I missed that. Kate whines enough as it is, but to land herself in a field full of mud? Not worth thinking about.

I used to play rugby, and it wasn't a good game unless you came home covered in mud. That said, I need a dry set of clothes to sleep in, otherwise I don't mind the mud all that much.

I have found that once I began tolerating dirt more, that I began to enjoy being outdoors more. It's kind of liberating to "allow" yourself to get dirty!

Eh, it's not worse, it's just different. There is no substitute for experiencing something again for the first time through a kid's eyes.
