Default Metal detectors

Does anyone ever take a metal detector while hiking or camping? Have you found anything good? It would seem to me that there could be some very interesting treasures lurking out there from the hikers/campers before us so I've been thinking about taking one along the next time I go.

I've never done it, but I agree that it sounds like a great idea.

I can imagine near water you may find some fishing lures. When I was a kid, I found a penny that was over 100 years old... I didn't have a metal detector but it was exciting. I wonder what else I may have found with a metal detector.

Sounds like fun. I do know that you can't use metal detectors in National parks, at least you can't around my area.

I just recently gone one. Except for trying it around the yard, I have not really used it though. Still learning how to use it. Also finding a place to use it can be hard. I thought about searching for a local club to help figure the whole thing out, but I haven't had the time.

There are many, many public beaches and state parks in Calif where you can't use them either.

I've never thought of it, but it might be a good idea. I am sure you can find lots of old artifacts. Hmm, there could be money in that....

^ If you have fields in your area go ask the farmers, see if its ok if you walk around and look for things. Buy a metal detector tuned for gold and look for meteorites they can fetch a damn good price . Oh and don't forget to carry a magnet!

PUBLIC beaches and you can't use a metal detector? Wow I'm sure glad I moved out of Cali when the state .gov was still semi sane.

We can use them wherever we want out here, the only place that might say something is a state park or national park but I highly doubt it. It's pretty do what you want as long as no one gets hurt .

America is not the land of (get everything you don't deserve) Its the land the (work your ass off and make your own way), if you don't like it go to china, they have free health care and 1$ a day wages.

Been wanting to get one. Lot of old gold mines in my hiking areas and just might find a nugget. (at least in my dreams, ha ha)
