Default Missing Time Away

With the weather like this, I completely give up. I may get out and hike in a month or two but it will be a whilst before I camp again.

How do you cope with the downtime over the winter?

"Missing Time away" I thought we were talking about Alien abductions here, never mind...

You have to learn to have outdoor activities every season. Not all of them need to mean 3 days in the bush. Try snowshoeing, cross country skiiing, or ice fishing. Try hockey. Hell set up an alley in your yard and take up curling!

I am thankful that the weather is now warm enough to get out get of the house. Nothing makes me more claustrophobic than the winter months and this year it seems like its been dragging on and on. Of course today has been super windy but you get what you can take right?

I spend winter doing the following:
* Saving up PTO
* Buying too much gear
* Working on said gear
* Fitness indoors and on "urban hikes"

Stop being a wuss. Buy snowshoes. Push through everything else. You may not go as far but you will find it worthwhile.

I have to agree with everyone who offered suggestions of getting out there and enjoying the winter. I love to go sledding and tubing. We also cross country ski but I have never tried snow shoes. I am going to add that to the list.

Does anyone know if you can rent them?

You can rent just about anything but occasional use snow shoes are not expensive enough to bother.
