Default Nail polish in the mending box

Yes, you read that right: it's for tent rips!

A lot of time a ripped tent will just fray when you attempt to sew it together again, and if it's the start of the trip, who wants to leave early over a torn tent?

The nail polish - quick set stuffs - gets painted down each side of the rip and let to dry, THEN the rip is repaired, the nail polish keeps the edges from fraying and pulling apart.

I used nail polish to stop the stockings from running whenever they get caught and get a hole. They are quite sticky like a glue but not as strong when it comes to smell.

Makes sense to me. I carry clear nail polish everywhere with me. It stops runs in your nylons so I bet it would fix a tent too. Good tip and I'm going to toss some in my mending kit.

As a kid, I was told that if I put my nylons into the freezer for a few days, they'd be less likely to run on me....

My grandfather said that maybe doing that to a nylon tent would make it hardier!

Good suggestion, Babe. I have a couple bottles of it. I use it to seal and color code reloaded shotgun shells. Now, I'll throw one in my pack.

Worth a shot given how small a bottle is in the pack. Last time I had a small tent rip, though, I just covered it with leaves lean-to style and fixed the tent when I got home. Can't imagine going home unless the whole tent was trash and I had no alternative.
