Default One Of Waterfall Victims Found

One of the group of three people who were swept over Vernal Falls at Yosemite, has been recovered about 240 feet from the base of the Falls. The trail to Vernal and the area is closed and will be until they recover the bodies of the other two people. I'm glad they found this guy but with the water running faster and colder than normal, it's risky to do anything around the water.

Yes it is always dangerous to climb over safety barriers and wade out in to that type of current. That whole incident was a needles tragedy of common sense would have been used. I to am glad that the remains have been recovered but I hope that no SAR or rangers were put at risk to make the recovery.

Oh my, what happen? I haven't heard about this. That is so sad. It sounds like from what you are saying that some people got careless and wandered out to far and ended up going over the falls?

Well to far is an understatement. Climbed over safety barriers and ignored others there to wade out in the river to get a better photo. Got swept over vernal falls. You can guess how the current was since they have something like double the snow pack in the mountain that they normally get. IF I remember correctly one of the victims was someone that was trying to help the others.

It's such a shame that people don't use common sense. Nature will bite you in the butt if you aren't careful. I have the utmost respect for forces of nature and try my best to obey the precautions set out for those who use the trails and waterways.

I was just at Yosemite this past weekend and was amazed (and infuriated) to see a group of three European tourists behind the safety rail, standing in the water, to get a better picture! They were literally six feet from the fall's edge and the water was roaring. All it would have taken is a quick swell from the river to drag them over the edge. Careless doesn't begin to describe such stupidity.

Some people do silly things for photos and I just do not understand it. Either as a profession (greed/money) or just a hobby. I could never imagine putting myself in that much risk.
