Default Owls and Hoots

When we were sitting at the camp site a couple of nights ago we heard an owl hoot, It's the first time I've heard one in years, It was such a comforting sound. Do you have owls where you live?

I like that sound. In the national forest I camp at they are pretty common.

Owls, loons, sage grouse, and sandhill cranes are some of my very favorite outdoor sounds.

We have Sandys (sand hill cranes), blue heron, bard owls, redtail hawks, an occasional bald eagle, canada goose, grouse, bobwhite quail, pheasant, and turkey. But my favorite sound is still the redwing blackbird.

Mostly great horned and screech owls. I live on the prairie, an we hear them frequently.

I also like the call of nighthawks.

On second thought, I'm going to change my favorite vote to Hooters.

We need to travel a good bit out of the city in order to hear any real wildlife. I do not think that city slickers count when they are out on the town at night.

We went to a fall salmon festival and they had 2 owls there. One was a spotted owl and the other was a great horned owl. They were awesome to behold.

We've had a pair of barn owls nest in our palm tree for the last 2 seasons... we've built an owl box for them, as last year the Santa Ana winds blew really bad and blew some of the palm frawns (sp?) down, loosing 5 eggs They havent tried the box yet, but we've been told it can take a couple of years for them to accept it. I love having them... they catch the rats that live in the fruit trees & around the aviary!

When we were camping last week, we heard one fly overhead... It was nice to know they were there also!
