About 30 years ago, a friend and I were canoeing the Missouri River from Garrison Dam to Bismarck. Midway, we camped on a sandbar, just north of Washburn. We thought we had pulled the canoe in far enough, but during the night the Corps of Engineers helpfully released more than the usual amount of water from the dam, and our canoe was nowhere to be seen. We swam to the shore and started walking downstream, finding the canoe about a half-mile away on another sandbar. We swam out to it, then paddled it back to shore and pulled it back upstream to our campsite. We packed up and made it to Bismarck on schedule. It could have been worse, and we still laugh about it today.

Sure have - when we first started camping. Its hard to pick the perfect campsite from an online map of the campground. We now always check out the campground and then pick the site.

Eagle,
I bet you bring your canoes on the beach and tie them to a tree now.

We like to 5th wheel and have had many more bad neighbors than bad locations.

My parents put us in a great level spot once. It turned out it was level because it was in a other depression, and water levels it out. It poured rain that night and we woke up floating on our air mattresses at 3am. Everything was soaked. I think we went home in the morning.
