Default Setting up hammock

I am at my brothers in Carrboro, N.C. and just set up my hammock before dark. Just doing some testing tonight to see how warm I stay when it gets down to the forcast 26 F. I am trying insultex and poncho liner quilts with my new hammock sock. If it isn't warm enough I will just come inside and snuggle in down. I have another outfit that is all down to try tomorrow night.

I did not go out to the hammock til 6 when it was 29. I fumbled around a bit getting comfortable but then slept till 9:30. Nice and warm. I am not sure I would have been this warm without the sock.
I had 2, 2 layer IXUQ and a PLUQ with a 2 layer IXTQ combined with a PLTQ. I used my newly made sock and tarp with doors. I may try my down system tonight since it is sposed to be 24. I got a new down bag for Christmas and have 2 down throws I have made into UQ's. The bag is rated to 20 and I think the UQ's should be as good.
IX is insultex PL is poncholiner UQ is underquilt TQ is topquilt

I have not used a hammock, in cold temps, either. I am interested in what your results are, just in case I ever decide to hammock, when it is 26 degrees outside.

I slept inside til 6:30 and went out to the hammock. It was 24 F. I had the down, which is, 2 eddie bauer down throws made into underquilts and a 20 degree down bag used for a topquilt. I was nice and warm. I think the underquilts may need tightened a bit but worked. I am pleased that both of these systems will get me below freezing. If I get the chance I may see how much lower I can go. I know if I am expecting 32 and it drops to 22 I'll still be ok.

What the heck is a hammock sock? Is it something you crawl into? I don't know if that would feel comfortable to me. I love laying in the hammock on a hot sunny day but never thought of sleeping in one in the cold.

Wow Charley, sounds cool. Would you mind posting a picture or two of your setup? My nook cannot play that video.

With the sock in place, do you still string up an overhead cover? That's really a great set up, wish I knew more about it back when I used my hammock in the jungle. Do you think that if you had a section of mosquito netting sewn under the flap that it would work at keeping out the bugs when the main flap was open? Just an idea. Do you sell these? Great work Charley!!!
