It is a water tank that sets on the side of a wood burning stove for heating water.
I have one for my Cabellas pack stove but found a pan full of water more convenient and less to haul up and down the mountain.

Ok, thanks ayll and scuse ma ignerance. i was thinking like back packing not a full fledged camp stove. Now that I see what yall talkin bout an ole fashoned water heater, I wouldn't think it aughta be sealed with silicone. we had a stove very simular to teh one shown made outa a piece of 30 inch oil field pipe. Always heated water in a dish pan but I can sure see an advantage to a rig like that.
