Snow Camping Thanks to a book on the subject, my daughter would now like to go snow camping. She wants to build a snow dome to sleep in-the full works. Have you ever done this, and did you experience a collapse in the middle of the night?!?

Wow, my goodness; I've never done anything like this! I would think that you should find someone who has done it before succesfully to show her the right way to do it and prevent collapse!

Don't ever try this unless you had proper training. This is exactly what I have seen in one of the episodes of Bear Grylls in Man Vs Wild. He is already a trained soldier but he was still freezing inside the ice dome he made.

If you try it remember to push a stick or something up through the roof to make an air hole and leave a small opening where your door is. It's also a good idea to make your roof rounded on the inside, tapering down towards the walls. If you don't, there is a good chance the condensation from your breath will drip on you all night. It's also warmer if you build up a place for your bed. The coldest air will settle to the lowest spot and it will be a little warmer up above it. Last edited by woodzman; Today at 06:38 AM.

Geez, I don't think I'd every try that! I get cold in the summer when I come inside to air conditioning. It's cold to me and I wear a sweater or a jacket in restaurants and buildings even in the summer time.

I don't think I could stand it. I don't like winter anyway and we always camp in the camper. I don't know if I could face trying to stay in an igloo all night long. I'd be afraid it would collapse in on my head.

I'd try it!! I wouldn't mind one night anyway. Especially if I had a car nearby if I got too cold, I'd go to it and go home! It would be really cool to find out if I could make it all night.

I wouldn't try it unless I knew what I was doing. It sounds pretty dangerous. Is there someone that you know that has done this before? Perhaps they can go with you so you know you are safe.
