T-day strut

I though we would do this years trip in Virginia. Past trips has been at Dolly sods WV and the winds and temps have been severe.

I am thinking of meeting at a Saunders shelter along rt 58 just East of Damascus by Nov 24th. Plenty of parking and easy to find shelter.

Driving
From Bristol, VA, take I-81 north 16 miles to US 58. Head east, following it 16.7 miles to the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area entrance at FS 837. Turn left and go .2 mile to the no-fee parking lot.

Past trips we all would bring something making this a great FEAST. Shoot me an e mail and we can discuss foods.....I will bring a Ham and Turkey.


Feast Thursday all day, Head out N bound along the AT along Straight Mt through Bear Tree Lake Gap and on to Whitetop....Camp above Buzzard Rocks near the spring with awesome views looking East. If we get there early enough I can show you a rock outcrop looking West at Iron Mt and down into the community of Konnarock. Views here are well worth the effort.


Sat head N Bound down to Elk Garden and on to Mt Rogers...camp pending our time as we have many options this day. If anyone needs to bail early sat Elk Garden is it and we can have your vehicle there.

Sunday early down to Grayson completing this adventure.

Weather is looking very nice from T day through the weekend....plenty of foods some come join us if you can..

3 Turkey's
2 Full Hams
20 chicken breast
30 sweet potatoes
30 Idaho baked potatoes
Yams
mixed Vegetables
Gravy
Biscuits
30 Wisconsin Brats
all the extras....Butter, sour creme, pepper, salt, garlic, paper plates, utensils, napkins.
4 pies
2 cakes
2 pumpkin rolls
40 assorted soda drinks
2 gallons of Egg Nogg

all you need to bring is your camp chair, tent, camper, libations if you dare and any other foods not mentioned here will be greatly appreciated..

so come on a join us Thursday...Friday if at all possible we will backpack North bound along the AT camp top of White Top Friday, Sat camp near Mt Rogers and exit Grayson Highlands state park.

Sounds really tempting, Fridge. Unfortunately, I've already promised my girlfriend we'll be spending Thanksgiving at her folks' place. Hopefully you get to do that next year. We'll try to join you by then.
