Default Taking along the Eggs.

When I was a kid, we had our own chickens. Thus we had our own eggs. Since we didn't buy any, we didn't have the fancy cartons to take along on a camping trip. Mom would either crack them and put in a jar or pack the whole egg in paper towels and put in a jar. Just common sense, don't you think?

If it works, then go with it! Sounds good to me.

I have a couple plastic egg holders, that hold 6 or 12 eggs and snap closed. It won't protect them from a hard knock, but at least if they do break, it sorta contains the mess, especially inside a gallon ziplock bag.

Great idea! I live cracking them ahead of time, this way you don't have the mess at the campsite. We used to have chickens when I was growing up too. We always got our neighbors cartons, they would keep them when they bought eggs from the store.

When backpacking (before the freeze dried era) we packed the eggs in the oatmeal for protection. The oatmeal was always the last breakfast of the trip anyway.

Great idea Grandpa!

If you sign up for a Survival School and it's cancelled for bad weather, you didn't miss much.

I went camping with some friends a few years back and someone had the genius idea to put the eggs in the cooler with the dry ice. Suprise, suprise, they froze solid. While sitting around the campfire later that night, another genius thought that it would be a great idea to toss a couple of the frozen eggs into the fire. The eggs then exploded and to this day I still have the very un-sexy burn scar on my upper, inner thigh as a reminder.

P.S.
We were all in EMS and nobody thought to bring burn dressings. However, if you were shot, stabbed, were in a major car accident, or needed to give birth, we had you covered.

Makes for a good war story...you caught a shell fragment!

I've never seen an egg explode nor did I know it was possible! Note taken.

PPS, If you want to see an egg explode, put one in the microwave for a few mins when your wife goes out and let the fun begin. (My dad and I experimented one day). Please clean up afterwards and be liberal with the air freshener.
