Taking little ones camping

I have went on a few of these trips but only as a helper since our kids at the time were a little young, we were sitting in for some friends. The volunteer route is a great way to learn the ropes, esp. when some team leads end up running things still by the books but some are more willing to help a volunteer than others.

The best piece of advice I can give you is that no matter what, don't tease them or make fun of them in jest.

When I was little I did a weekend camping trip with a church group and I forgot to bring a pillow. Luckily, I had a Teddy Bear to use as a pillow (which I had stuck in my sleeping bag). The guy that helped get our group settled in saw my Teddy Bear and made some cruel comment about how only babies had Teddy Bears.

It made me feel really bad and kind of ruined the rest of the experience for me. Years later that is the main thing I remember from that camping trip.

These are great tips for any group of little girls you're taking camping, whether they are Brownies, Girl Scouts or anything else. I'm going to print these out and put them in my notebook. We have grandkids who want to take their friends with us camping. This will help.
