The sugar is there to provide an energy boost. You can certainly leave it out if you prefer.

I guess that was my main question-I figured there must have been a reason for sugar to be included. Growing up my mother used to mix peanuts, raisins and M&Ms for long car trips. Why she wanted to give four kids sugar and protein on long car trips is beyond me!

Hi...

I'll bring some of my home-made pemmican, and/or M&Ms, tinned sardines, cheese and/or peanut butter crackers, and always have some MRI crackers in my BOB (which can be one or two steps above hard tack).

I usually use frosted mini wheats. They come in a variety flavors.

I agree. It's also a bit of a comfort food for me.

Before, I'd always buy my mix from Walmart. Nowadays, my girlfriend makes those crunchy granola stuff with nuts, choco bits and a bit of honey. It's a bit more time consuming, but she enjoys always tinkering around in the kitchen so I give her that. Oh yeah, they're also really good
