The dog comes first and a split second later the backpack. It doesn't work the other way in my house!

Never go without leaving my troubles at the front door of my house. A few times they have managed to seek out but they have always gotten left at the trail head. Funny they always seem smaller when I get back.

Knife. Most important tool you can have.

Obvious but serious - I'm not dressed for camping without my main camping knife and a Bic lighter in my pocket. These are required item even for afternoon hikes and nature walks that aren't campouts.

Not so serious, but still with me on every campout is baler's twine. Paracord is great, and I use it for many things around camp. But nothing feels, (or looks), as natural as a lashing project using baler's twine.
