Default Where do you camp?

Where do you camp? Do you have a special spot that you stick with? Or try out new places each season?

There are 3 camp grounds that we love. My daughter has them memorized, from playgrounds to pools. We tend to stick to these camp grounds. They are all close to home too. Each one is different and has something special about it.

My favorite one has a waterfall. You hike down this path about a half mile and it leads to a waterfall (2 of them). Of course the flip side is the hike back to camp is all uphill. The kids love to hike and swim here. It’s usually too cold for me but I get in. The other 2 campsites have great wooded lots for camping. I like to be in a shady area with some sun too. All the time away from the main camp ground where a lot of people are.

We used to camp a lot in State Parks, but not stick to camp grounds. No matter where we choose we make sure there are showers, bathrooms and a pool. Most places also have a band at night for live music.

Where do you camp? What kinds of activities and amenities do you have to have?

We camp in the National Forest. It's free.

There is a couple outhouses but no running water, so that means no showers. We camp about 40 minutes away from our house. If we go for a long period, we will come out of the woods and go home to take a shower. We also have the river right behind where we camp, so that helps us not to be so stinky while we are camping...lol

I have camped in the parks before but I really love being in the woods away from people. It is just very peaceful. I do not need anything extra than what I can bring from my house. We use lots of baby wipes to make up for not having running water. We also have a fresh spring close by where we camp, so we will eat up water on the camp fire and wash up that way.

Honestly, we try not to be to clean so the bugs will leave us alone. Problem is, within a couple days we don't want to be around each other either..LOL

This sounds like a great place! Is it by any chance in the northeast of the US or the tri-state area? I've always loved waterfalls. Is it big enough that you can hear it on a quiet night from that far away?

A lot of my friends go to Gennie Springs. I am wanting to hit up some state or national parks soon however.

Currently, I'm camping a lot in northern California. But I used to live in eastern North Carolina and did all my previous camping there.

Back in NC, I found that rare "perfect spot" where I felt at peace with everything ... Goose Creek No. 12.

I'm still looking in NorCal, so I'm trying a different place every time. I'm looking forward to a trip to Armstrong Redwoods coming up this summer among several other trips.

I like to camp in different places. I like to explore what is at the campground and nearby town. You never know what you will find.
However it is always nice to camp close to home at the local park in the beginning of the season so if you forget something your not too far from home.

I usually camp along the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts, along the coast of Southern Maine, Chester state reservation and Deerfield in Western Mass, and southern Vermont and New Hampshire.

i think new England is the perfect place to camp... however i have camped in Washington state.

i usualy bring everything i need and i usually camp at places that have little facility, if any at all. when i was younger we use to use a trailer... and since we got rid of it. i couldn't have been happier. i feel that trailers weigh you down to much..

My favorite place is in Western NY so yes in the NorthEast. All of the places you guys described sound wonderful.

I have to have a shower every day. Bugs or no bugs, I'm a freak about showers.

I want to go camping out West someday. It would be across the country for me, but so much fun. We are trying out a new place in July. It's 4 hours from us, up North in NY (Old Forge).

Me too, I do this to enjoy myself and I do not enjoy being dirty and smelly, so a shower every day is a minimum requirement.

Hey Nate: By any chance have you camped in Somerset? That is the place I was talking about in my post. I am from Southern Vermont. I have not camped on the Mohawk trail yet but will eventually. We actually were going to last year, until we found out the access road was closed off.

It's pretty cool seeing someone on the board who knows the area.
