Default Where do you get the wood?

Where do you get your firewood that you use when you camp? Do you take your own or buy it there? Are you campers that will go find it in the woods at the campsite?

We always take a lot with us, but the kids love to go find some too. I don’t see any harm when kids pick up dead limbs off the ground. I do see a problem with people cutting down trees or ripping off a live tree limbs. I see this often when we camp in a more desolate area. One couple actually had a small chainsaw and they were going to cut down a small tree? What the heck! Tell me that is not you!

Consider re-wording the thread title? hehe

I'm not really a campsite camper, the places I camp have no place to buy wood and carrying it in would mean in my pack so I find what I need without damaging any trees.

I do know that at any Massachusetts state run campgrounds you can not bring in outside wood you need to buy it from them, due to fear of some sort of beetle invasion

We usually find fallen limbs, loose wood lying around or we buy it as we go in. If you truck in your wood, you take a great chance of carrying harmful insects to an area that may not have had them before. Protecting the forests is important.

We heat our home with wood, so all summer we combine our camping trips with firewood gathering excursions. As you can see, it's a non-issue for us.
