Default Why I can love it

I deal with too many electronics in my line of work. Phones, tabelts, cells - I am stuck in the tech world and happy to get away from it when I can. I might carry a cell for an emergency but otherwise being out in nature and detached from the world is what I adore. I am hoping with a new home purchase we can take some of our new backyard and make it a small nature getaway. Any ideas are surely welcome.

I know what you mean - I work for a computer company and people think I must love having the latest and greatest gadgets....truth is, I'm more than happy to leave all cell phones/blackberries/laptops at home. I don't even bring a laptop on vacation which is blasphemy to most people I know!

At the risk of being cut off from squandering my kids inheritance, I still carry my SPOT and check in with Grandma twice daily. Failure to comply with that and I am in a lot more trouble than the guy in 127 hours. (Grandma used to be a redhead)

The rest of the tech stuff not only doesn't go with, I don't have any of it.

I feel you. Camping has always been my way to escape all the techie stuff. The most that I bring is my cellphone for emergency reasons. There's just something about being around nature that can really relax you and energize you at the same time.

I hear that, years ago I remember we had a kid go lost in the woods for a teen camping trip. They were find in the end but the entire town was in a heavy uproar, since then no one in my family can go anywhere without checking in too!

I know what you are saying outwest. I don't work in that field, but I'm surrounded by technology constantly. I do love to get away from it. I don't mind the computer so much, but getting away for me is away from cell phones. Going on a cruise ship would be ideal or in the middle of nowhere so I don't have to look at all the texting and people talking on their phones.

I view technology as a tool. I choose what I think is useful and ignore the rest. My phone is "dumb" with voicemail and texting disabled. When I go home, I turn it off. If I need access to the web, I use the computer at my desk. If you call my work number, you get a choice to contact me via my cell phone, and If I choose not to answer, you're automatically routed to voicemail.

In short, I control the technology, it does not control me.

I you have a big tree in the backyard of the new home, maybe you can build a tree house, and make it your nature hideaway. Ban cell phones and other electronic gadgets in the tree house.

We take our cells because we usually let the kids hike ahead. We were able to ban handheld video games for quite a while but then car rides started to be too much-they just weren't used to sitting and doing nothing and forget reading a book. We limit the amount of time they can play with them at the campsite unless it starts to rain.
