Well, I guess if that's your definition of a snob, I am. I don't mind people having a drink but getting drunk and out of control while in the wilds is not a good idea. There are a lot of chances to get hurt while even camping casually so I don't want to be "out of it" even for a little while. If you want to get "drunk" and swear at each other, do it at home. I hate it when people are in a campground and do this. You can't even have any peace unless you are far away from the public sometimes.

Sorry, but that's not my idea of camping. I would rather go somewhere there is no one else for the peace. If I wanted to see a bunch of drunk people shouting at each other all I have to do is walk down my street at home. I go camping to get away from all of that. It is not snobbish to wish to have fun and peace while camping! Tell your family there are a lot of people who have the same attitude about camping.

You should rethink your position on this. I say go again, and this time make a point of being a better role model for the kids. They want to hike or fish...you be the one adult who isn't too wasted and who is motivated to go and do it with them. You will make a huge impression on the kids, and perhaps change the mindset of a few of the adults as well. Seize the day!

I don't think ricci M is a snob. I think he is sane. I don't mind having a few cold beers while sitting around the late evening campfire but if there are children with me I don't drink. If you're out in the woods, children need a protector. They get into things. What if one of them gets hurt and requires more medical attention than first aid? Was there a designated driver at your camp? Something tells me it was you, ricci M.
