Default Helmet Laws

The other day I saw a mom and her kid on a tandem bike without helmets, I'm pretty sure there's a law that you must wear a helmet until you're 16 however I think that law is kind of pointless seeing as the cops never enforce it where I'm at they've got much better things to take care of (like people getting shot) so what do you guys thing law or no law that is the question...

Anyone who fails to take advantage of PPE's (personal protective equipment) is definately increasing risks.

I'm sure laws will vary from state to state, city to city, and enforcement will vary as well.

That being said, I think we depend way too much on govenment telling us what is safe.
Face it, hot coffee is hot, falling on your head on concrete is going to hurt, and if you fail to use PPE's you enhance the human gene pool by vacating yourself from it.

I wear a helmet because I'm fond of my head, not because some bureaucrat says I have to wear it.

I believe the helmet is a good safety device when riding bikes. I do wonder though, how my generation ever made it this far without being told what we could and could not do by the government. Do you think the government has too much say so in our everyday lives? DUH!!!!

I agree with you, rayne. How we older people survived without all this protective gear is beyond me. I never ended up in the emergency room either. I know only one guy who was killed on a motorcycle. I'm not downplaying the importance of protection, but it does make you think.

My kids always wear a helmet. No getting around that. They may not like it but they will wear it.

I wouldn't get on a bike of any kind without wearing a helmet. Having said that, I worry less about cracking open my head than I do about what the government is going to order us to do next.

In my area you have to wear a helmet if you're under sixteen. I have seen an officer stop a kid not wearing a helmet and talk to him about it. I think what will happen is that kids will grow up wearing a helmet and it will become the standard in time.

Hi...

My grown grandkids all wear a helmet for ATVing, skiing and snowboarding...which are the only sports they are currently involved with.
