Pack goats have been around longer than people realize. The northern Rockies and BC are the areas where hunters use them to pack out quartered wild sheep and goat. Usually the gelded males (wethers) are used.

I have handles llamas a few times, and run into them a lot in Peru and Bolivia. Today we will be messing around with alpacas that seem flighty in comparison to llamas.

Years ago when llamas were still worth a lot of money, there was a big show at the MGM Grand casino. Llamas were everywhere. I rode an elevator with two of them, headed to a fancy suite for free drinks. They are easy to house break.

A friend of mine hauls his llamas in a station wagon. They jump and lie down in the back.

Why would you want to ride one?
They are the most nasty critter that hauks lugies the size of softballs.
I will never have one on my place ever again!!
I originally bought one to run with the goats, traded the idiot off and bought a donkey. much better critter!!

Hmmm....Deja Vu? Where have I seen this before, CozIn?

Llamas are obnoxious creatures. I prefer a horse or a mule for a pack animal. My preference would be a horse to ride and a mule who likes the horse and will follow it anywhere.

Hi...

Don't have too much experience with goats. The folks raised some, but I was very young then. Used to feed and water them but don't recollect any proplems with them.

A few years ago I stopped at a small goat farm which specialized in goat cheese. The goats were running loose, and were very "friendly". They kept butting me in the butt...really...!! Didn't really hurt, but kept me on my guard. Didn't like getting surprised by a goat...!!
