| Bicycling in large groups. Every Saturday morning there is a huge group of people on those bikes that look like the ones that are in the big events like Lance Armstrong was in. I'm not really familiar with the sport, but I see these guys every single morning on the weekend. There has to be 50 of them, but they don't have numbers on their back or seem to be in a race. They have all the spandex on and helmets and look the part though. Do people really get together like that as a regular bike ride with that many people? It seems odd, but they are out there every single weekend.

| There are clubs that do this. Some of them are pretty accomplished riders but most are aficianados wishing to identify with the group.

| Yea I could see a club doing that but honestly I do better at riding alone. I am a little clumsy in everything I do so trying to get me in with a group of 50+ would be a bad idea.

| fifty bikes in a cluster riding down a highway sounds like a mass funeral in the making. Somebody will come along not paying attention and smudge............ Won't matter who is in the right and who is in the wrong.

| I see them all the time too. Sometimes they are on a fun ride with all different teams. They will ride up to 100 miles. Other times they are on a regular club ride.

| A few decades ago three other guys and I did the 73-mile Tecate to Ensenada bicycle ride. 10,000 other bike riders showed up. It was surreal and a lot of fun. I mostly ride solo these days or with several other people. Tucson was rated the best cycling town in the USA by Outside magazine last year for its hundreds of miles of bike lanes. I am still doing 100 miles a week along with some canyon hiking and backpacking.
To answer your question, yes, some people do get together and ride in groups like that. I never was into the big group rides on a regular basis but some find it thrilling.

Men in spandex is indecent exposure IMO also.

JMO,
DC | I agree, I see no need for 50 plus bikes to mass on the highways.

| I have seen a group of about 20 men doing that kind of thing on weekends too. It looks like they are a loosely organized group out to get a weekly exercise and fun.

| Just did a ride with 1000 or so cyclist it was a blast. The rid was put on by the City of Louisville. They do this every year as part of the Hike, Bike, and Paddle event. They do three events a urban hike, or walk through Louisville, A 15 mile bike ride, or a paddle trip on the Ohio for canoes and kayaks. Pretty cool event.
