Default How to be safe in mountain biking?

I have seen a video where a biker fell off a cliff. The video didn't show the aftermath but it did show how the biker fell. The trek they took was very narrow and he slipped.

What are the ways we must do to avoid this from happening to us?

Practice, practice, practice.

Firstly, practice on trails that have smaller uphills and downhills. Work your way up to the big stuff.

Also, read this OutdoorBasecamp.com article on trail riding:

That article was really helpful. I have been riding my bike on the plains but never rode it on a hill. I think I need a mountain bike that can do the climb.

Well since I got slammed twice yesterday on my downhill ride I would say BRAKES, BRAKES, BRAKES. As well as practice, you should really check your bike before you do any downhill stuff. I checked my bike the night before but neglected to pay much attention to the brakes. When I started the trail my back brakes were so worn down that they would barely slow me down. Having to do a 7 mile downhill run with only front brakes HURTS I'll tell ya that much. Now I have to go get some x-rays on my shoulder tomorrow, work is going to be pissed.
