Default What is invovled in owning a horse?

I have always wanted a horse but I know nothing about the care of them. Where I live right now I don`t think I would be allowed to have one but does anyone know what the regulations are regarding owning a horse? And what do you need to do to take care of one, and what do they eat? See, I no nothing lol. I just love riding them.

Regulations of owning a large animal vary from area to area. It's usually a county by county law and there will be a minimum amount of land that you have to own in order to have a large animal on it. You can find out easily enough at your local courthouse. Horses eat feed and hay. Usually it would be a combination of sweet feed and oats and that would have to bought at a feed store. People who own horses and people at places like your local feed store are usually pretty willing to help others who want to learn about owning horses or any other type of livestock so they would be an excellent resource for you.

Horses are really great animals. They come along with a lot more work than most think. You would need at least a few acres before I would recommend you even consider having one. At minimum 3 acres and I would say that is only if you intend to ride the horse at least a few times a week and get it out of the cooped up fencing.
