Bleeding fish I was told by a old time fisherman that he cuts the gills and bleeds the fish before storing them. He said they keep longer that way. Anyone know if this is true or not?

I've heard of bleeding carp when you catch them. But here in Florida, I would not feel comfortable bleeding other fish. If you are in salt water, you risk getting sharks, and you are in fresh you risk gators.

I've always removed the insides and gills from any fish that I intend to eat within a reasonable length of time after they're caught and always before I freeze them.
