Default Line for salt water fishing

Due to the size of sea fish they tend to get rather large. I know this means you must use a larger line. At the same time you don't want them to see the line. What is the correct size like for salt water fishing?

Depends on what you are fishing for. 12 to 25lb test would do for surf fishing for sunnys and croakers. Pier fishing might be a little heavier the further out to the end of the pier you go. Again, it depends on what you are fishing for.
