Default Not warm enough yet

The water in the lakes here is still in the upper 40s where I live. The fish just won't bite when the water is this cold. Agony, as I have been ready to fish for a month!

They'll bite, Joe. You just have to find them. Try fishing the North shore of the lake. It gets more sun and the water will be a bit warmer. The fish will move there to sun themselves.

Also, when the water is cold, the fish won't swim as far after a bait so you need to still fish with a bobber. The bass will sit near or under any structure like a downed limb. Use a gob of nitecrawler and let it sit for a minute or two. Keep moving and testing different areas.

We mostly saltwater fish here in Florida and the water is nice right now. It does get a little slower when the water temp is cooler but the fish are still there, you just need to find them and be patient.

We had a few perfect days that my uncle took advantage of but then like this morning we woke up and it was 30 outside. I think the weather is throwing everyone for a loop in these parts.

Joe S,
Dino is right. Upper 40s can be a great temperature for fishing. We don't know where you live or what species you are after. Ice fishing in 32 degree water can produce some big fish. The water was in the upper 40s last Thanksgiving when my friend and I caught 4 trout over 20 inches and 1 over 26 inches. Find someone with local knowledge to help you and good luck.

My dad goes ice fishing every winter so I can't imagine that you can't fish with temperatures in the 40s. The fish are still there and still get hungry so there must be a way to catch them.
