Default Is this for real?

I can't catch fish this big with a rod and reel. Is this video for real? If so, you folks in Indiana sure have it easy to catch fish.

Fishing at it's best. @ ExplorOz Forum

They could have tried to catch them with a net flying through the air! Unbelievable.

Whoa! That's incredible! I've never seen anything like that! I know one thing for sure - I would never starve if I lived over there.

While it's possible that fish came sideways and not from a trajectory out of the water. It also came in already covered in blood from being caught. Probably thrown in from a boat just out of view. Remember it's a marketing video. The other fish, yeah, those are real. The one that "jumped into the boat" probably was not.

Did a search on silver carp. It is an invasive species brought in from Viet Nam to control blue-green Algae. Another govt idea gone wrong. They have been know to leap 10 ft out of the water, seriously injuring water skiers and jet skiers as well as landing in, on, and around the boats. Unfortuanately, although they can process the algae,(they are immune to the toxins) they also retain the toxins and can pass the toxins on to humans that eat them. In addition, after eating the algae, they also pass the ability to regenerate and therefore are spreading the algae even further. All this per wikipedia, which itself may be questionable data.

The video and the carp are the real deal. They were intended to only be used for controlling algae in fish hatcheries. But flooding in the midwest got them mixed into the general population. Generally blood coming out of the gills is a sign of overexertion. Jumping 10 feet out of the water over and over will do that to a fish.

Now they are taking over every body of water they get into. Illinois river is thick with them. The big challenge now is to keep them from reaching the great lakes.

People do fishing charters and bow hunt the rivers. They have arrows that are tied to a fishing reel. It's crazy stuff. Just ride down the river and shoot anything that jumps out.
The boats are crazy looking. They weld cages (made of chain link fencing) to the decks of the boat in the front and sides to keep the fish from jumping into the driver/passengers and then the bow hunters "fish" off of the back of the boat.

Whats worse, the Asian carp are breeding with the bighead carp and are making 40-50lb flying fish.

Yes. It's real. I live pretty close to the Wabash River and these fish are a problem. They get excited when you motor through them. Something about the sound of the prop makes them "fly" into a frenzy.

Hmmm... I wonder if you need a license for this type of fishing? But you can't eat them? Now that's sad! Looks like there were quite a few to be had that day!
