Default Trout fishing Jan. 29

I took a friend from out of town fishing on my boat yesterday at Topaz Lake. There was no wind but is was in the 40s and the water temp was 39 degrees. Lots of fish hanging between 40-60 feet but they were hard to get at and probably lethargic. We were able to catch plenty of small rainbow trout in the 12-15 inch range trolling right on the surface with no weight or lead-core line. This time of year their meat is dark reddish-orange and really good to eat. I will be smoking some this week. Is anyone else having any luck in the dead of winter?

This week a guy caught a 9.6 pound male rainbow trout in spawning colors that was 28 inches long at Topaz. I will be going out again next week.

I wish I could go. I really want to get out soon. Most likely this fall will keep me home again, so I got to get my fill before then.

Wowsa! Awesome catch. I'm ready to get out on the Lake again too. I love to fish! My kids love to fish too. We have had such a mild winter - we should have been out there already too.
