    Summer camps

I went to summer camp every summer and I loved it. Sadly, my summer camp was also sold and developed. Guess the owners just couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a boatload of cash. I can't blame them but still it's sad.

    Small Inflatable Boat?

I remember hearing about a guy who took an inflatable kayak with him on his trip to Italy and went exploring the Grand Canal in his inflatable kayak. That's the best news for an inflatable I've ever heard of.

    Fear Kills?

Fear and panic are the cause of death and injury and many situations not only wilderness survival situations. People die of being trampled because of the overwhelming fear of the herd.

    Hearty vegetarian camping foods

I just remembered that I didn't share mine! Chili takes a long time to make but it's great if you're just poking around the campfire anyway. Chili is super hearty and the beans trick you into thinking there's meat in it. I am not vegetarian but I make chili over the campfire for the last few...

    Hearty vegetarian camping foods

Has anyone had any success making really hearty, comforting, delicious and easy vegetarian foods over the campfire? If anyone has any recipes to share I'm all ears, or um, eyes.

Places to see before you die

I've always wanted to travel the silk road. I suppose it is not safe for an American through parts of it but ever since reading about Ibn Battuta in high school, it's been something I've wanted to do. I doubt I ever will though.

    Wild Boars

Even domestic swine are mean, I can only imagine the fierceness of a wild boar. I think that hunting one could be very exciting for some. Hunting something with razor sharp tusks can be pretty enticing.

    easy set up canopy

We bought a canopy last year and I paid $149 as part of a year end clearance. It definitely needs two people to set it up but it is not complicated. It is a really good quality and I expect that we will have it for a very long time.

    I don't think I could do it

I was watching the movie 127 hours again and the more I think about it the more I am convinced that I don't have what it takes to do whatever it takes.

4 must have spices for camping

Curry powder is a great idea to bring camping. I'm not allowed to fix curries at home because of the stink that permeates the house for days afterward but now I'm thinking I'll fix a nice curry dish on my next camping trip. Thanks for the idea.

What ages are appropriate for camping?

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I'm new around here and I never would have known that I shouldn't take my kids or "elders" camping. :tinysmile_fatgrin_t I guess everyone has their own ideas. Personally I would take a baby of just about any age camping as long as I had someone to share the...

    Home Survival

I don't have a two year supply of every item I might ever possibly use in the event of an emergency but I do have enough to live comfortably for a few months. I cook almost everything from scratch so I keep a bulk supply of raw ingredients because it just makes sense economically. I might not...

    Am I just a slob?

Yes I sweep out the tent! The kids are in and out of the tent so frequently and I don't want to sleep in sand, dirt and pine needles. Maybe if you're just camping alone then it wouldn't be a problem but when you've got four kids and a dog in and out, it needs to be swept out at least once a day.

    Parabolic cooker for camping

I have seen these and they don't look too portable. I suppose you could strap it to the top of your car but then you would not have much room for anything else. There are solar box ovens that are very portable but they don't cook food fast like the parabolic cookers do.

Best time of the year at my job!

It's amazing how much more productive workers can be if they're not being micromanaged constantly. When I was a manager I very rarely issued warnings or reprimands and my team had the second highest productivity on the floor and I had more associates recognized for innovations than any other...

I can't believe it's December and I haven't put my bike away yet!

Seriously, if you're going to be riding a bicycle in the winter you need to make sure that you're wearing a completely wind-proof jacket. If you don't you'd better have some Udder Cream on hand. I'm speaking from experience here. OUCH!

How long does it take you to put up your tent?

Sounds like we really need to work on our times then. We started timing ourselves because we just plain don't like doing it so getting it out of the way as fast as possible. Good to see that we can get it down to 5 minutes.

    Dying hair

Whatever you do just make sure you match it to your natural color or everyone will notice. If you go with your natural color, people will not notice as much. If you can't decide between two colors, go with the lighter one.

    What's in YOUR ice shanty?

What is it with guys and their ice shacks? My dad could spend all day in that thing and come home with only one or two fish. I'm pretty sure he just used fishing as an excuse to spend all day in his man cave out on the ice while we stayed home chipping ice from the driveway :tinysmile_angry2_t:

    Soft Tacos

I make the taco meat at home using my own recipe and spice combination. Then I freeze the meat mixture. In a cooler it will stay frozen for days and days. I make the soft flour shells at the campsite. I bring a sack of flour, baking powder, lard or oil, a cutting board and a pin for rolling...
