I haven't done a lot of fishing and have never caught a catfish. Is there any difference in taste between a freshwater and a saltwater catfish? Or are they the same fish and can live in either fresh or salt water?

"Catfish" isn't a specific fish. It's a family of fish so yeah it can be either fresh or salt and from a few ounces to "what the hell is that?! holy crap it ate my dog!"

    ^ Or your horse haha...

Basically catfish are bottom feeders, you can use floating jig heads with about a 1foot leader in the opening of a cove in a lake to catch them.

Or just cast out with a slide weight and let it rest on the bottom but you'll catch a bunch of different stuff that way. Our here floating jig heads work well for catfish.

If you catch one just make sure to run it under warm water to kill it, nails through the head, chopping the head off, even skinning it and flaying it wont' kill them but warm water will!

Oh and most important, soak them over night or at least a few hours in whole milk, it removes some of the oilyness of the meat.
