Did a little running around, and some fishing, on the local. I use a boat launch named Quarryville Boat Launch, of course named after all the quarries that used to be here. They just weren't gravel quarries, they were pink marble quarries. A half mile from the launch was a house named Marble Hall.
It sits on the shore of the lake. It was built around 1900, so that was about 50 years before the lake was dammed. It set on the Holston River, which is now Cherokee Lake. If you follow the lake about a mile down stream, and go up in a creek channel, remnants of one of the marble quarries and where a marble saw area was set up.
My wife discovered the site. I never noticed it before, because I wasn't curious enough to explore, or question, this strange area where rocks were strewn on the bank.
I guess this bunch of pieces were dumped here away from where the saw was set-up.
A chunk that I would guess wasn't big enough.
Most of the cut pieces were an inch thick. Shows the pink color when wet.
This chunky bass must've volunteered for a photo, and made me feel better about not being skunked. It was promptly kissed and released.
