I just left Facebook where I am convinced there is not a scintilla of intelligence. What most do on Facebook is stroke themselves with emotional BS. Most of it is political or having to do with visceral pursuits. And, should one have something to say that is outside of the realm of guttural physical pursuits or emotional idolatry for the "way the world should be", one is shunned for having a thought. Here, on the other hand, is a place where people who live in the world or wish to, come together to share their knowledge or request the sharing of it. I'm an old guy. I love to share my experience with those younger or simply less experienced than I. I have also been schooled, discovering several items I had heretofore been unaware of, by those on this site. I discovered things from people half my age. Amazing and yet not. One can learn from anyone who has not led the same life. God bless us all.
I like this forum, but lately we have turned into the outdoor food and drink forum. I actually like Facebook because it has put me in contact with some really old friends and relatives. I think you have to be very selective in who you interact with. I have no patience for political posts. I have a professional photographer that posts beautiful photos every day. I correspond with lots of musicians that put youtube videos on of their music. I don't care about who baked cookies or their cat pictures. Weed out what is uninteresting and keep adding the good stuff.
Hi, Ppine... I can understand your frustration...!! As for myself...I've not much to contribute today...as I just now got back on line...I've been off for two weeks or more, as I was inadvertently kicked off by OBC, and just now received a password (again) that worked...!! We've still got lots of snow on the ground here in the lower Catskill Mountains of NY...Geese are continuing to fly in...Robins are frolicking in the snow...and although Winter seems to be finally over...daytime temps are in the 40s...with frosts at night...!! ATV-ers are starting to come out also...and not all of them were having good luck (A Cop recently was involved in a local crash)...!! We had NO lack of snow this year...so, unlike CA...we have plenty of water. I'll post more as soon as my OBC brain kicks back in...!!
Like Ppine, I like facebook. Keeps me up to date on all the grandkid happenings. My daughter in law in Colorado posts pictures daily of the grandkids so I get to see them grow, despite the distance. There are also groups that I belong to, such as a group about our little mountain valley. Since our chief export is people, these same exported people have a chance to reminisce about their lives here. We recall old teachers, various shenanigans, and expound on current affairs of our little community. We are still way below average moisture but we just had a little storm go through. We were blessed with a couple inches of snow which is our biggest snowfall for the 2015 part of winter. Despite the low moisture, it seems a little impulse comes through just often enough to give the crops a drink. The alfalfa is jumping and the newly planted grains are sprouting well. Even if they are six weeks early.
This forum is great. No bickering and trolls aren't tolerated. I just got back from an overnight. I am learning the value of a good night's sleep out there. With my current sleeping pad I toss and turn all night and have decided to invest the money into a better one.
My primary reason for being on Facebook was to reconnect with old military friends. I posted a ton of pictures from my time in my service to share with those who would enjoy them. I agree with both ppine and dinosaur. I have since left Facebook due to being hacked continually. Even I after changing my password. Facebook can be a great place if you don't get caught up with all the ignorance. I may go back some time, who knows. As with all social media sites, there will be uninteresting topics, on the other hand, there are topics that at one time or another lend themselves to reference. I enjoy this site due to the honest and righteous views shared here. I've said it before and I'll state it again, There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum by some highly experienced people. It's folks like you that keep me coming back here.
Hi... I check out FaceBucket each day...mostly to get news on more local doings...See what my former shipmates are doing...and visiting with non-avid outdoor people...!! I was on Face Bucket for about two years before I really got the feel of it...!! I also participate in a few other outdoor forums as well, as I find them interesting, too!!
