The Sun

I went hiking with a friend of mine the other day. We weren't deep in the woods, but somehow we got off the path. I was a bit scared because we had been in longer than I wanted to be. He told me not to be scared and to look at the sun. Somehow, he knew exactly how to find the path because of the way the sun was setting? We found our way out with no problem.

Have you ever used the sun before--to either tell time or for direction?

I've used the sun for time before. Not so much out of necessity, but more just because I can and I don't always wear a watch. Thankfully I haven't had to use it due to being lost...yet

Direction is easy to determine by the sun unless it's around noon! As far as time, I can just about tell what time it is but it is extremely approximate.

It's amazing how you can tell what time it is with the sun and directions. I was amazed. I really thought he was full of it--until we found our way out.

I too can tell the approximate time, and direction, by looking at the suns position and altitude. I spend a lot of time outdoors. It is good knowing how much daylight you have left.
