Normally, when we go camping, we leave our two year old with his grandma. We were thinking he might be at that age where he will enjoy it more now. Does anyone have any experience with this? We might end up waiting till next year before we decide to take him, though. Just thought he might have fun in a different environment with us.
My babies have come camping since they were infants. The little one in my profile pic was about 15 months old on this trip, a 3 day backpacking trip in the Sawtooths. I've never seen any reason to leave them home. Kids love to camp.
I have not had a chance to take her yet because most of this summer I was paddling white water when I was camping. But I hope to get my 1 1/2 year old out on a trip sometime in the next few weekends.
I think they would enjoy it. Children love the outdoors. I am sure your toddler would have a lot of fun if you took him/her.
My kids love to go camping. We started them out right around two years old. Now they are seven and ten. They look forward to Memorial Day when our first camping experiences start for the year. It's a great opportunity for them to get out in nature and see things that they may not normally see living in the city. I do have to say though that when we take them we end up doing more State Park camping, that way they have bathrooms and other activities close by.
We bring our toddler camping sometimes. He does really well most of the time. Just make sure you have a way to lock your tent. That was the only thing that ever concerned me.He knows how to unzip and zip things. I was a bit paranoid the first time we took him for that reason.
Most of my kids and grandkids and great grandkid started camping their first year. Many had their first backpacking trip before their first birthday. Biggest issues are temp control and bugs. Tents get hot in the daytime so a shady, cool bug free method must be arranged for the babes to get a nap.
My kids were in a camper at age 1 and second at 1.5 months. Current family camping season are April 21 to November 1. Off season 4 season solo camping/backpacking/hunting/and fishing.
Change your style of camping and bring the kid. It is good for you and good for the child. They deserve to be brought up camping.
